As another local Akron blogger who does "promote" items in the hopes of getting public knowledge out there AND hopefing someone will click on a link and buy something once in awhile, I really liked this blog post. I was completely unaware of this new regulation and fine. I've glanced around your blog quite a bit and really like what I see (we even use the same theme). Keep up the good newswork! I'll be a regular visitor!

Wow - kinda scary. I had NO idea. Granted - I do think people should disclose when paid to do a review or whatever -- and I would think it's a best practice (and just an ethical thing). But to be slammed with a fine? Seems extreme.

I am a Linux user, but I got my daughter a new laptop and it has Vista on it. Honestly, for a basic computer user, I don't think it's that bad. And I know I'll be shunned in the Mac and Linux communities for that, but really-- it's user friendly, it's got great virus protection and it's basic. It's good for a certain group of people. But yes, it was short lived.. so I guess it wasn't well received.

Good job on the haggling bro! Just recently my wife went in and let our auto insurance company have it. We got offers from other companies at half the cost of what we were paying and we have never had an accident or filed a claim (knock on wood). We have 3 policies with them and good student discounts and they were still really high. She got them to go down almost $130 dollars a month! In this economy, people are more willing to haggle to keep good customers, so try and get your monthly costs down! Can't hurt to ask!

Meh, I don't really have one view or another on MJ. Good artist; large body of work? Check. Freaking face-carved weirdo with a reasonable chance of being a child molester? Check there as well. I was never a "fanboy" of MJ, so all things considered I did not wish for his death, nor do I spend a whole lotta time grieving about it either. So I'll let the reporters and Geraldo Rivera and the entertainment AP folks do all of the commemorations and in-depth reporting packages. (It is at this point that I have to remind everyone that even though I am the site admin for ANN, the opinions here are entirely my own and may or may not be the opinions of ANN, Rubber City Radio Group, WAKR-AM 1590, it's agents, management, or my neighbor's dachshunds.)

Heh... I knew that I would be risking a fanboy flamewar when I posted this one (not that I think your reply constitutes a flame). Actually, there was one other Windows release that was killed quicker; that being Windows ME. We only had one ME box in the entire organization here at the Akron Radio Center, and that one was owned by *drum roll*... the company president. One of the real problems with it, as you'll recall, was networking issues. We never could reliably keep that horrendous thing on the network for more than one or two boots; it caused all manner of hell for both him and for me as I was the IT Director for that seven year period of time.

As for Linux, we actually have several Linux boxes running, one of them being this webserver (Ubuntu Jackalope) as well as several Debian boxes so I am well familiar with CHMODding directories for fun and profit. And Mac? They keep changing their codebase and architecture too often (or at least too recently) to be adopted in a widespread enterprise environment. Couple that in high hardware costs where Apple has a lock on the supply chain and you'll see relatively few datacenters sporting large numbers of X-Servers barring specialized circumstances. It's not a dig at quality, just price.
